ISO 12625-5-2016 “Tissue paper and tissue paper products – Determination of wet tensile strength – Part 5”

introduction
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with ISO are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

The procedures used to develop this document and those used for further maintenance are described in Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directive. In particular, attention should be paid to the different approval criteria required for different types of ISO documents. This document has been drafted in accordance with the editing rules of ISO/IEC Directive Part 2 (see iso.org/directives).

Please note that certain elements of this document may be subject to patent rights. ISO is not responsible for identifying any or all such patents. Details of any patent rights identified during the preparation of the document will be found in the introduction and/or in the list of patent claims received by ISO (see iso.org/patents).

For conformity assessment related ISO specific terminology and express the meaning of the specification, as well as the relevant ISO in technical barriers to trade (TBT) adhere to the principle of the world trade organization (WTO) in the information, please refer to the following iso.org/iso/foreword.html.

This document has been prepared by the Technical Committee CEN/TC 172 (Pulp, paper and Board) of the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) in collaboration with ISO Technical Committee TC 6 (Paper, board and pulp) and Sub-Committee SC 2 (Test methods and quality specifications for paper and board). Comply with the technical cooperation Agreement between ISO and CEN (Vienna Agreement).

The second edition cancelled and replaced the first edition (ISO 12625-5:2005), which was technically revised with the following changes:

a) in article 7, include a more detailed description of the preparation of specimens;

b) In Article 8, the measurement procedure is specified;

c) In Article 10, the test report shall contain other information;

d) More detailed accuracy data in Annex A;

e) This document has been edited and updated.

A list of all parts in the ISO 12625 series can be found on the ISO website.

ISO 12625-5-2016 “Tissue paper and tissue paper products – Determination of wet tensile strength – Part 5”

1 Range
This document specifies a test method for determining the wet tensile strength of tissue paper and tissue paper products after immersion in water using a tensile strength test equipment operating at constant elongation.

Currently, there are two types of tensile strength test equipment on the market, one is placed vertically and the other is placed horizontally. This document applies to both. For vertical tensile strength test equipment, a device fixed to the grip under the tensile strength test equipment, called a finch cup, is used to achieve wetting. For horizontal tensile strength test equipment, the soaking device is placed between the fixtures.

Where impurities and impurities need to be identified, ISO 15755[6] is suitable for these tests in tissue and tissue products.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in ISO 12625-1 and below apply.

3.1 Wet tensile strength

In a tensile test, the maximum tensile force per unit width of a waterlogged specimen before it breaks

Note 1: Wet tensile strength is expressed in Newtons per meter (N/m).

3.2 Wet tensile strength retention

The ratio of the tensile strength of the wet sample to the tensile strength of different samples from the same sample under dry conditions, expressed as a percentage

Note 1: Compliant with ISO 187.
