Meaning and use
5.1 Certain substances in adhesives may cause discoloration of vinyl flooring. This test method provides a way to measure discoloration in vinyl that may occur as a result of contact with these adhesives. Vinyl substrate samples, whether in contact with or without the adhesive, are exposed to heat and UVA light to accelerate discoloration. With a colorimeter or spectrophotometer, the color difference between exposed specimens can be accurately measured. Therefore, an instrumental assessment rather than an individual subjective assessment is used to determine the amount of discoloration that adhesives may produce in vinyl flooring. This test method does not attempt to simulate or replicate the heat and sunlight conditions that may affect vinyl flooring during use.

1.1 This test method describes procedures and instruments for accurately measuring the degree of staining that may occur on vinyl flooring as a result of contact with the adhesive. The measured color difference between contact and non-contact adhesives for vinyl substrate samples is expressed in the CIELAB color scale system.
1.2 This test method provides a visual assessment of staining that may occur when vinyl flooring is in contact with the adhesive.
