4.1 These test methods are generally used for the following purposes:
4.1.1 To evaluate the materials and construction of a particular type of container,
4.1.2 To compare the performance of different types of containers,
4.1.3 Determine whether the protection of a particular product or application is adequate, і
4.1.4 Maintain quality control.

1.1 These test methods cover the determination of the water vapor transmittance of bulk shipping containers as follows:
1.1.1 Спосіб А, for resealable containers, і
1.1.2 Метод B, for containers not designed for reclosing.
1.2 In each program, methods for constant and cyclic test atmospheres are given in detail.
1.3 The test may be performed in a packed container or after one or more performance tests, such as drum (method D782), vibration (method D999), drop (method D5276), стійкість до ударів (method D880, D4003 and D5277) or performance test (practice D4169).
1.4 For small transport containers requiring more accurate weighing, the water vapor transmittance can be determined according to test method D895 or test method D1251.
