Una punta a sfera viene inserita nel rivestimento e, usando la formula matematica： Distanza=Velocità × Tempo ； il registratore inizia a muovere questa palla a una velocità predefinita. Mentre il rivestimento si asciuga, la traccia lasciata nel rivestimento dalla pallina identifica ogni fase della cura.
