4.1 This practice provides a way to qualitatively assess the impact of outdoor weathering on pressure-sensitive tapes. The resistance of the strip to outdoor weather is determined relative to the resistance of the control strip with known stability.
4.2 If the tests described in this practice produce the same type of degradation as in real time exposure to the same material, the results of these short-term tests may be used to determine the quantitative effects of natural weathering.
4.3 Ultraviolet solar radiation exposure levels (MJ/m2) using ultraviolet light (295 ל 385 נ"מ) cover exposure test times for outdoor routine exposure and outdoor accelerated exposure in this practice and are an improvement over exposure test times. A specific level of exposure to solar radiation (MJ/m2) can be used to establish a relatively equivalent exposure, but is optionally used (UV of MJ/m2 (295 ל 385 נ"מ)). 4,5,6
4.4 The recommended radiation exposure (308 אוֹ 616 MJ/m2) for this practice is about one year in the Southwest and two years in Florida. Since all materials “weather” at different rates in different environments, the results obtained using this practice should not be equivalent to natural weather until the degree of quantitative correlation has been determined for materials tested using the environment.
